As we uncover music and liturgies that are generationally and culturally hospitable, authentic, formative, and enlivening for today’s worship, we find timeless gifts: patterns for Daily Prayer and the Eucharist, Psalm-Songs, Healing Prayer, sung prayer of Taize and Iona communities, global song, and new hymn texts in a lively variety of musical expressions. This workshop will be a singing, dancing, and prayerful journey through the new Upper Room Worshipbook: Music and Liturgies for Spiritual Formation, a unique, transformative resource for congregations, small groups, choirs, retreats, and conferences.

Elise Eslinger is the founding Director of the Institute for Applied Theology at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. A Methodist preacher’s kid from Mississippi, she has served as a church organist since age fourteen. She earned a Master of Theological Studies degree in liturgical ministries from St. Meinrad Theological Seminary in 1994. She previously served as Director of Worship and Culture for the Board of Discipleship (United Methodist Church) and was on the founding leadership team for the Upper Room Academy for Spiritual Formation. She is compiler and editor of the Upper Room Worshipbook 1985, and a new, expanded version published in 2006.
