Join us in our 2023 Lenten Discipline
This year, as a communal discipline, the co-op congregations are asking that we give our pocket change, or a few dollars, each week to go to the victims of sexual assault at the hands of the Boy Scouts of America. They is a jar in the back of the sanctuary to put your donation in.
Over the past few years many have come forward to share stories of sexual abuse and harm at the hands of the Boy Scouts of America which in churches belonging to the United Methodist Church. While none of our churches at the co-op had chartered boy scout groups or were directly responsible for the harm, we are part of a denomination that has thrown many into the wilderness of recovery from sexual assault. Many of us know the personal wilderness of being traumatized by the actions of a denomination and so, as part of our Lenten discipline, we are raising money that will go to those harmed as a sign of reparations. We know that this cannot erase the damage done, but it can play a small part in telling victims they are seen, believed and that we communally and materially repent of the damage our denomination has done.
